In
Memory of Kris
by Jen Eggle, his
sister
A note from Bonnie Eggle: This writing was done by Jennifer in memory of her brother Kris. Jen wrote this as she and one of their uncles "were escorting Kris' body back" from the Medical Examiner's officer at Tucson to Ajo, AZ. As she rode along, looking at the hearse in front of her, she told Uncle Randy that Kris always loved her writings and she was going to do a tribute for him. As a mother, I could never have been any more thankful for the love the two had for each other and for her courage to do this in the midst of her grief. She even shared her special words at both of Kris' funeral celebrations.
In Memory of Kris
by Jen Eggle, his sister
Once upon a time a young man lived a wonderful life. He was born to parents who adored him and taught him right from wrong. He had a sister who worshipped him and always wanted to be just like him. He had loving grandmas and grandpas, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many, many friends, and everyone who knew him came to love him as a brother, or uncle, or son. He had a runner’s strength, a hero’s courage, the spirit of a saint, and the heart of an angel.
There came a time that this young man had a calling to protect and serve in a land far from home. He knew that it was a dangerous place, but he also knew that his work there was necessary and important. So he packed his belongings and moved away, though his heart remained always with family and friends at home. In time, however, the young man found many new friends in his new home, and they, too, came to love him as a brother, or uncle, or son.
One day, the young man was hurt while doing his duty. That day, he heard another calling, one that he could not help but follow. He moved on to a new home, where many family and friends awaited him. Those who remained behind were very hurt and saddened when the young man left, but the memory of him gave them strength. They each decided to try living their lives by his example, sharing each day together, until the one day when they would all move on to that new home, where the young man is waiting for them.
